Two-Photon Biofabrication

In the past 20 years light-mediated biofabrication techniques has seen a widespread use in the field of tissue engineering. Among the various light-based bioprinting techniques two-photon stereolithography (2P-SL) has seen an impressive growth in interest due to the exquisite and unique 3D control over complex free-form structures with submicrometer precision. In our group, we work on several aspect of 2P-SL, from the design and developing of novel biocompatible photoresins to the biofabrication of tissue constructs. In addition, we exploit the fine 3D spatiotemporal control over photochemical reactions to immobilize bioactive signals, ranging from small molecules to growth factors, in what is known as two-photon patterning. Tailoring biochemical properties of cellular matrices enables us to study and guide cell behaviour with unprecedent control.
